-50-南予医誌 Vol.20 No. 1 2020 A man in his 70s developed an acute myocardial infarction and was admitted to the hospital. He was discharged after undergoing cardiac rehabilitation. However, during the cardiopulmonary exercise test, his anaerobic metabolism threshold and the peak oxygen uptake, both indicators of exercise capacity related to survival prognosis, were low, at 9.8 mL/min/kg and 11.1 mL/min/kg, respectively. Therefore, outpatient cardiac rehabilitation was started. Three months later, the patient’s anaerobic threshold and peak oxygen uptake had improved signicantly, to 16.8 mL/min/kg and 24.4 mL/min/kg, respectively. Thus, the effectiveness of outpatient cardiac rehabilitation was confirmed. These results show that cardiopulmonary exercise testing is important to assess exercise tolerance related to life prognosis and should be performed to determine the ecacy of treatment.1) Department of Rehabilitation Uwajima City Hospital2) Medical Science Graduate School of Kochi University3) Department of Cardiology Uwajima City HospitalAbstractYuta Nakaya 1,2), Yuta Watanabe 3)Efcacy of outpatient cardiac rehabilitation as determined by the cardiopulmonary exercise test: a case of acute myocardial infarction with congestive heart failureKey words:outpatient cardiac rehabilitation, cardiopulmonary exercise test, exercise tolerance
