-29-南予医誌 Vol.20 No. 1 2020PURPOSE:To investigate the efficacy of compression therapy using nitrile gloves to prevent paclitaxel-induced peripheral neuropathy.PATIENTS AND METHODS:Patients with primary and recurrent breast cancer who received paclitaxel were eligible for this case-control study. Patients wore nitrile gloves on bilateral hands and feet of size XXS or XS for 90 min. Patients were evaluated for peripheral neuropathy at each treatment cycle using common terminology criteria for adverse events (CTCAE) version 4.0. RESULTS:Thirty-four patients were enrolled and evaluated between May 2017 and July 2019. Before compression therapy was introduced, 14 patients were evaluated as historical controls. Compression therapy using nitrile gloves decreased the occurrence of peripheral neuropathy at CTCAE grade 1-2 and significantly delayed its time of appearance. These eects were present on the feet as well as the hands. No patient withdrew from the study because of an inability to tolerate compression from the nitrile gloves.CONCLUSIONS:Compression therapy is eective for paclitaxel-induced peripheral neuropathy.
