南予医誌 Vol.15 No. 1 2014-16-Abstract Nutritional management in the perioperative period aims to reinforce recov-ery and should start during the preoperative period. In recent years, preopera-tive oral rehydration therapy has been emphasized, instead of prolonged fasting. We examined our original oral rehydration therapy using oral rehydration solu-tion (OS-1) and a carbohydrate-rich beverage (Arginaid water). Our oral rehydra-tion therapy had good compliance for preoperative patients and was popular, as indicated by the results of a patient questionnaire. Also, we examined the clinical effect of our oral rehydration therapy in patients operated on for colorectal can-cer. The average hospital stay was shorter after the oral rehydration therapy was introduced, although the difference was not significant. Moreover, the meal medi-cal expenses were signicantly increased , and this was considered to be useful.
