Bisphosphonate and selective estrogen-receptor modulators are used as first drugs for medical treatment. Bisphosphonate in particular improves bone density imme-diately and is frequently used to reduce the risk of bone fracture. However, an association between atypical fractures and bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaw has been reported. We experienced one case of atypical pelvic fracture related to the long-term use of bisphosphonate. If an atypical fracture is suspected, it is necessary to discontinue the bisphosphonate, and alternative drug treatment and surgery should be considered.(Nan-yo Med J 2013;14:71-77.)Atypical pelvic fracture associated with long-term bisphosphonate therapy: a case reportKunihiko WATAMORI, Hiroaki TSURUOKA, Yuko FUJII, Toru OOMORIDepartment of Orthopedic SurgeryUwajima City HospitalGoten-machi, Uwajima, Ehime 798-8510, JAPAN
